The Director, Tax manages and is accountable for the accuracy of financial statement tax accounts ensuring completeness and accuracy under existing statues, regulations, and administrative pronouncements, performs tax planning analysis and research and makes recommendations to minimize tax liability, ensures department alignment and coordination with all other areas of the company to achieve corporate business strategies and vision.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and works closely with the Executive Director of Tax on the monthly, quarterly, and annual tax accounting preparation and review processes. Ensures compliance with GAAP, and other bases of accounting where appropriate.
  • Proficient in the application of ASC 740 as it relates to the company. Assist the ED with ensuring the accuracy of the US consolidated tax accounts as well as other bases of accounting as assigned.
  • Monitors the global tax landscape, identify areas that may impact RGA and assist in the impact analysis and process development.
  • Ensures tax accounting policies and disclosures are appropriate in relation to SEC requirements including Sarbanes Oxley
  • Advance tax department use of technology identifying opportunities for automation and working with appropriate IT and business departments to define, design and implement high-impact solutions, while also enhancing the use of technology with other members of the tax department
  • Fosters a positive and engaged work environment while also mentoring associates and giving guidance on associate development.
  • Performs tax research and analysis of tax issues to determine tax impact and makes recommendations.
  • Maintains frequent contact with management and staff associates in finance, valuation, treaties, and administration to facilitate accomplishment of department objectives.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements improvements to tax accounting processes.
  • Completes special projects as needed, in areas such as acquisitions, new ventures, sales, new products and other opportunities.
  • Collaborates with other members of the tax leadership team to develop goals/plans that align with division and company objectives and then manages to those expectations.

Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years tax accounting experience
  • 5+ years supervisory or management experience

Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Basic Word, advanced Excel and SQL/Query skills including Power Bi and Power Query
  • Advanced ability to identify opportunities for improvement, develop technology automation solutions such as Alteryx and implement the solution.
  • Advanced knowledge of broad business practices
  • Highly advanced skills in managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced communication skills when working with internal and external partners to resolve issues/problems.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by internal and external contacts.
  • Advanced ability to investigate, analyze and solve complex problems/issues.
  • Ability to translate business needs and problems into viable and accepted solutions.
  • Advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines.
  • Advanced knowledge of tax accounting practices and procedures including GAAP and Statutory accounting methodologies, disclosure, and reporting.
  • Ability to work well within a team and foster teamwork environment.

The general pay range for this position is $101,685-$151,435per year.Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles, and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan.RGA maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
