Position Summary:

The Director of Contracts will be the lead member of a team of attorneys/contract administrators and will primarily support the contracting effort within the Legal/Contracts and Risk Management Departments. The position can be in Bigge’s Houston, Texas or San Leandro, California offices. It currently is a hybrid position, i.e., three days in the office and this may be open to future change.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead dynamic construction Contracts group in day-to-day contract management activities, including supervision of staff and contract administration process.
  • Interface with internal and external customers regarding technical construction contract issues, including contractual risk allocation issues.
  • Review, analyze, negotiate and approve customer construction contracts, equipment rental agreements, equipment sales documents, consulting agreements, and other routine and non-routine documentation associated with Company’s operations.
  • Ownership of the contracting process from initial fact-checking (confirmation of scope, schedule, and price with sales and payment status with accounting) to final approval.
  • Responsible for developing contract management processes/systems to optimize efficiencies.
  • Outreach to and cross-training team members in other departments.
  • Proven experience supervising teams of support staff at the manager level.
  • Work with General Counsel to ensure smooth implementation of contracts; organize and manage logistical flow of contract implementation by Contract Administrators and relevant team members.
  • Organize and conduct periodic contract performance and administrative compliance reviews for project logistics teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements/Qualifications:

  • BA/BS required. JD preferred but not required if strong Construction contracts background.
  • Proven experience in construction contracting. 5+ years of experience in construction contract management, including analyzing and negotiating, is highly preferred. A basic understanding of contracts, indemnification, and insurance is mandatory.
  • Attention to detail in composing, analyzing and proofing materials, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines and ensuring documentation is completed and filed professionally and accurately for internal and external purposes.
  • Effective organizational skills to ensure group’s workflows and resources are optimized.
  • Extensive management experience.
  • High level of interpersonal skills, able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, poise, and perseverance.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with and persuade customers and other stakeholders by email, telephone, and contract draftsmanship.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is expected. Experience with Adobe, DocuSign, and Salesforce is a plus.
