Job Description

The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for overseeing and administering all institutional, state, and federal aid programs from which Midland University students benefit, and ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations established by the respective agencies that govern those aid programs. The Director manages the day-to-day operation of the Financial Aid Office and works closely with the CFO.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years administrative work experience in financial aid or 5 years professional financial aid experience that demonstrates supervisory experience and leadership skills.
  • Lead a department that is pleasant, welcoming, empathetic, student focused, and solution oriented.
  • Knowledge of financial aid regulations and policies, and the ability to develop policy and formulate rules which fall within these federal, state and university guidelines.
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight in all aspects of the University’s administration of financial aid and related automated systems, Anthology.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions and problem-solve under pressure while still being empathetic to student concerns.
  • Conduct data analysis, develop strategies, and evaluate packaging philosophies to inform decision-making that supports student recruitment and retention.
  • Direct the review, awarding, disbursement, and reconciliation of all student financial aid funds.
  • Provide support and counseling to resolve specialized and/or complex issues; train financial aid staff and other departments on policies and procedures.
  • Commitment to professional growth and leadership within the financial aid profession. Including representation and advocacy for student financial aid programs, where necessary.
  • Maintain an ongoing professional development program for financial aid staff, conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Oversee financial aid audits, program reviews, and required reporting.
  • Maintain Title IV Participation Agreement with the US Department of Education.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other software programs and applications.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Position operates in a fast -paced office environment with multiple telephones and office machines in a relatively close area. High volume of phone calls, e-mails and walk-in visitors is also common. Regular office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some nights and weekends may be required, depending on customer service staffing needs.
