The role
We are seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead a team developing our fraud, risk, and Machine Learning data solutions. The team is front and center, and works across SoFi’s product suite, delivering best-in-class solutions. You will work across our products and engage with multiple business and product stakeholders. The ideal candidate should be able to work in green field projects, be a forward-thinker and hands-on, have a strong sense of ownership and drive for delivery, and be a good mentor and co-worker. We pride ourselves on a philosophy of continuous learning, and you should likewise be committed to furthering growth and providing mentorship for your team members.
What you’ll do:
- Be on the front line of driving growth/adoption of our products
- Own team building and management, including hiring and team performance.
- Drive Architecture and technically lead development of highly scalable machine learning systems that the entire company will use.
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers and product managers to deploy and maintain machine learning models.
- Identify and evaluate new patterns and technologies to improve the performance, maintainability and elegance of our machine-learning systems
- Design software architecture and data flows for scalable machine learning development work
- Lead the development and testing of our tools and services needed to build scalable tools and services for handling machine learning workflows.
- Participate in shaping the technical architecture
- Help translate user stories into technical solutions
- Deliver highly available and scalable services in a production environment
- Mentor engineers, support the technical culture, and help grow the team
- Generate ideas for new initiatives and technologies
- Communicate with project leads, product managers and other software developers
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s Degree, in a technical field
- 7+ years of management experience or experience leading a team
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, ideally on a modern stack
- Deep understanding of ML platforms and data models
- Experience setting up an AI platform on Cloud (AWS, GCP or Azure)
- Maintain code quality, performance, and sound architectural principles
- Experience working in a collaborative coding environment, refining designs together, working through code reviews and managing pull requests
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves, collaborate with others and get stuff done
- Strong sense of responsibility; driving a project from inception to completion

- Experience with Agile methodologies
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
