The Director will report to the Ethos Veterinary Health (Ethos) Specialty+ER Divisional Group Leader along with partnering with the local leadership team.
Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS) was founded in 1988 and is currently one of the largest veterinary hospitals in the country. The Hospital Director has overall accountability for the operational and financial management of the hospital. The Hospital Director performs a wide range of difficult to complex administrative activities related to the hospital in providing quality patient care and excellent client service, management of finances and accounting, marketing, and promotion of services, staffing and human resources, and discretionary activities, that serve to support the hospital.
Essential job functions:
- Responsible for managing the operations and financial health of the hospital.
- Interfaces and collaborates with Support Services departments as needed to ensure that the hospital goals are met.
- Responsible for overseeing the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of staff.
- Responsible for overseeing the recruitment, interviewing, contract negotiation, and hiring doctors in conjunction with the Medical Director.
- Responsible for working closely with the Medical Director to establish the best medical care while keeping the positive financial health of the hospital.
- Monitor employee competence and effectiveness through manager feedback and observation as well as staff performance and salary reviews.
- Assign job responsibilities to managers and delegate as necessary.
- Responsible for policy enforcement as well as overseeing disciplinary actions and terminations with HR guidance.
- Organize and conduct staff meetings. Meeting regularly with managers to discuss, evaluate, and plan for the welfare of the practice. Attend corporate meetings.
- Responsible for administration and review of non-medical client complaints.
- Oversee client flow to ensure that clients and patients are seen and treated in a professional, timely and competent manner.
- Oversee billing, calculations of any discounts, and other special accounts.
- Monitor purchasing so the practice operates within budget.
- Monitor the staff scheduling so that the practice operates within budget.
- Monitor and approve all expenditures within Ethos guidelines.
- Ensure that the OSHA and Safety program and procedures are monitored and updated so that the hospital is in safety compliance.
- Review income statements and other financial data to find ways to improve revenue and profit.
- Meet regularly with veterinarians to review financial performance.
Review accounts receivable to confirm proper and timely processing. - Understand, participate, and support planned marketing events and programs and ensure that the hospital staff utilizes marketing tools and materials and events and programs.
- Read and respond to all communication in a timely manner to ensure that Ethos policies, guidelines, and recommendations are quickly communicated to hospital staff and adequate training follows if needed.
Essential skills:
- Knowledge of financial budget management.
- Knowledge of sales and marketing techniques.
- Background in managing service-oriented operations.
- Ability to plan, organize and effectively present ideas and concepts.
- Ability to take information obtained from clients, staff, and other sources, discern that which is credible and assess the hospital and its operation objectively.
- Must be able to multi-task and deal with high levels of stress in an environment of changing priorities.
Education:
- College degree preferred; advanced degree ideal.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a medical care facility operations management with profit and loss responsibility

Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing office equipment such as facsimile machines, copiers, and computer keyboards.
