St. Joseph Village is looking for a Director of Nursing (DON)! The primary function of the Nursing Director is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the nursing department in accordance with current applicable federal and state agency regulations and with current standards of gerontological nursing practice. Director of Nursing

The Director of Nursing (RN) is responsible for the administration of the Nursing Department to assure a satisfactory, consistent level of quality resident care. The primary function of the Nursing Director is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the nursing department in accordance with current applicable federal and state agency regulations and with current standards of gerontological nursing practice. In addition, the Director of Nursing is responsible for the supervision of the Medical Supplies and Medical Records Departments.

Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Supervises effective management of the nursing department based on the policies, procedures, objectives and standards of the department.
  • Direct the planning, implementing and evaluating of nursing care services for all residents on a 24 hour seven day a week basis.
  • Interview applicants and approves or rejects hiring.
  • Supervises staff coverage to comply with the Illinois State Code.
  • Establish a methodology for assessing the nursing care needs of residents and ensuring that the nursing care component of the resident care plan is developed and implemented for each resident and that this plan is periodically reviewed and modified as necessary.
  • Assists in developing nursing care plans for individual residents including rehabilitative and restorative activities, instruction in self-help, and cooperation with Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and others.
  • Arranges for orientation of newly appointed nursing staff in facility policy and nursing procedures.
  • Develop, implement and maintain nursing service objectives and standards of nursing practice.
  • Develop nursing service policies and procedures.
  • Conduct meeting with staff and interprets to them the principles of good nursing management.
  • Advise the Executive Director as to the number and qualifications of nursing services personnel required to meet the residents’ needs and the type and amount of specific nursing care equipment required to meet the residents’ needs.

Minimum

Education

(including vocational school, Jr. College, etc.)

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing

Applicable Experience

5 years experience in general staff nursing. A minimum of 3-5 years experience in nursing administration, either as a Director or Assistant Director.
